Sixth Form student Sachi crowned Wolverhampton Young Citizen of the Year

Wolverhampton Grammar School is thrilled to celebrate the exceptional achievements of Sixth Form student, Sachi, who has been awarded the prestigious Wolverhampton Young Citizen of the Year Award. This accolade highlights her immense dedication to charity and community service, which she balances alongside her academic pursuits with unfaltering enthusiasm and compassion.

A passionate advocate for positive change, Sachi’s contributions span far beyond the school gates. She is currently working towards her Gold Duke of Edinburgh (DofE) Award and has enrolled herself in a unique course, Creative Thoughtfulness in the Care of Others, aimed at enhancing the wellbeing of older individuals in her community. Having also completed a Dementia Masterclass, Sachi continues to expand her knowledge to support those in need.

Sachi's volunteer work is extensive and diverse. Notably, she travelled to The Gambia for a week-long residential to help alleviate children’s poverty. Her charitable work also includes volunteering with Kissing it Better (KiB), where she connects with elderly residents via phone, donating children’s books to The Haven, and helping with essential services at her local Sikh Gurdwara. In addition, Sachi is involved in dementia awareness initiatives as a Dementia Friend, visits care homes to sing for residents, and is developing a social media platform with South Staffordshire Local Village Transport to promote the organisation. She also dedicates her time to educating children in local schools about oral hygiene, and she is even knitting blankets for New Cross Hospital.

At school, Sachi shines as a Charity Ambassador. Sachi was a highly valued member of WGS’ 2022 Coast 2 Coast team who ran the 170 miles from St Bees in Cumbria to Robin Hood’s Bay in 24 hours to raise £7500 Teenage Cancer Trust. Beyond her charity work, she is a Peer Supporter, offering guidance to students, and one of eight House Captains, fostering leadership and community spirit among her fellow students.

Congratulations, Sachi, on this well-deserved recognition – we are all incredibly proud of you!
