Pastoral Care

Founded in 1512, Wolverhampton Grammar School is an award-winning independent day school, for boys and girls ages 4 to 18.

WGS is an inclusive and inspiring community built on respect, individuality, equity and kindnesss

At Wolverhampton Grammar School we pride ourselves on offering the best pastoral care possible. Looking after every individual is key to the ethos of our School. Our diverse community is celebrated, and we want all students to feel at home and proud of who they are. We all work together to foster a sense of community and belonging at WGS.

All our students are always happy to help or give support to fellow students when they need it, particularly the Head Boy and Head Girl and their Sixth Form Prefect team. Peer Support from students in the Sixth Form provides valuable help for students who for whatever reason feel unhappy or under pressure with school work. We also have a School App called ‘toot-toot’ where students can reach out anonymously for help. Our on-site professional Counsellor, Mrs Abbi is available to provide more formal one-to-one support if required.  She also runs group workshops on topics requested by students such as building self-confidence, self-esteem, and assertiveness.

Senior school students all have two dedicated tutors who they see twice a day and whose primary responsibility is to care for their tutees; to provide support and guidance and build positive, strong relationships within the tutor group.

The Senior House system which is at the centre of school life further enhances the School’s outstanding pastoral care, enabling students to build relationships across year-groups. The House tutor and Co-tutor remain with the student from Year 8 through to Upper Sixth providing continuity of support and care. Read more about the Senior Houses.

The WGS Wellbeing team are always on hand to chat and offer daily drop-in sessions in the centrally located Wellbeing Hub and garden, located in the tranquil vicinity of the Jenyns Library. Read more about the Wellbeing curriculum which includes Personal, Social, and Health Education (PSHE), and Relationships and Sex Education (RSE) on our Wellbeing page.
