WGS is a vibrant and diverse community.

We recently asked ourselves if our staff and students were leaving a part of their identities at the school gates? Commissioning Staff and Student Belonging surveys helped to give voice to every member of our community, enabling us to make sure everyone is both seen and heard and students and staff came together to draw up the following values statement:

"WGS is an inclusive and inspiring community built on individuality, respect, equity and kindness." 

Our Staff and Student EDI Champions have been working together to explore how we may improve the visibility of every member of the School community, resulting in a diverse range of activities and events (masterminded by our committed and caring students) that acknowledge and celebrate our unique characteristics, cultures and backgrounds.

Black History Month, World Mental Health Day, LGBTQ+ History Month, Ramadan and South Asian Heritage Month are just some of the things we are marking, alongside our own diversity event: We Are WGS Week.

We have also launched Student Voice, run by a group of Sixth Form students who meet with advocates from every form group to discuss themes and issues relevant to our students.

We also hope to launch some "Big Conversations" during the course of this year and next where students come together to discuss the issues related to the nine protected characteristics they all learn about in their Wellbeing lessons - the idea behind this is to talk more openly about the difficulties people face and to explore ways we can be more accepting, understanding, and supportive.
