Wellbeing Curriculum

Wellbeing Education helps students to manage many of the most critical opportunities, challenges, and responsibilities they will face growing up. Wellbeing has been embedded as a subject within the WGS Curriculum and it includes Personal, Social, and Health Education (PSHE), and Relationships and Sex Education (RSE).

Wellbeing is taught to students from Year 7 to Year 13 by a specialist group of teachers in the Wellbeing Department. Students are also allocated dedicated weekly tutor time to discuss scheduled topics. These could include how to form positive friendships, diversity online and real-world safety, mental and physical health, first aid, personal finance and much more.

Like any other subject, students receive progress checks throughout the year via quizzes and are tasked to produce a written debate about an interesting topic covered in lessons. Lessons are enhanced by fascinating guest speakers, such as ‘Loudmouth’ who deliver RSHE education through theatre, and enrichment activities.

Proactive And Responsive

The WGS Wellbeing Curriculum has been recognised nationally for its proactive and responsive content, adapting to changes in the news and society and ensuring the students are well informed within a safe environment. Mrs Keeley has featured as an expert on PSHE and Wellbeing on radio and tv broadcasts.

Wellbeing is a flexible broad-based curriculum which at its heart encompasses fundamental British values and has due regard to the nine protected characteristics of the 2010 Equality Act.  We are proud to be a diverse community and celebrate this in our ethos and school life.
We encourage our students to receive their ‘Wellbeing Five a Day’:

  • Connect
  • Be Active
  • Take Notice
  • Keep Learning
  • Give

We believe these are vital to helping our students be happy and well adjusted.

Students are encouraged to drop-in to the Wellbeing Hub and garden, located in the tranquil vicinity of the Jenyns Library. These act as a central place for students and the Wellbeing team are always on hand to answer questions and chat.
