U11 Footballers strike again!

Congratulations to our U11 Boys’ Football team who are Wolverhampton City Champions following an incredibly tense final against St Anthony’s Catholic Primary Academy on Tuesday 23rd May.

Congratulations to our U11 Boys’ Football team who are Wolverhampton City Champions following an incredibly tense final against St Anthony’s Catholic Primary Academy on Tuesday 23rd May.

This success comes just three weeks after a successful performance at the ISFA National Finals at St George’s Park on Tuesday 2nd May, which put the team in the top eight independent school U11 football teams in the country.

The City finals was a nail-biting game which saw an equal scoreline of 2-2 as the full-time whistle blew, meaning it was to be settled through extra-time. It was our WGS team who were victorious with thanks to an expertly-placed goal by Zaine-Cole.

Congratulations to St Anthony’s for reaching the final and being high-quality opponents, and well done to our U11 superstars: Jayden, Aarin, Owen, Harry, Arjan, George, Nolan, Ted, Harry, James and Zaine-Cole.

Deputy Head of Wolverhampton Grammar Junior School, Mr Griffiths said:

“They are a magnificent group of young men, all incredibly talented individuals who recognise that the team comes first. Yet again, they all stepped up when it mattered most and deserved to be crowned champions.

Huge thanks to the families of all the children involved and to all their coaches (internal and external) who have put a huge amount of time supporting and developing this team.

Furthermore, massive credit must go to the Junior School Staff who work incredibly hard to build successful sports teams alongside ensuring as many children as possible get the opportunity to represent our School.

On a personal note, sport (and in particular football) is my passion. It has been a privilege to support this team over the last couple of terms and as they move on to the Senior School,  I’d like to thank them for the happy memories which I will cherish.”

Thank you to Mr Griffiths for coaching and supporting the team through an incredibly successful season. We look forward to seeing how they progress next year.

Would you like your child to join our thriving Junior School? There are limited places available for September 2023 entry into Years 3 – 6.
