Introducing our 2023 Sports Scholar

We are delighted to introduce our 2023 Sixth Form Sports Scholar, Sheena, who joined us from The Royal School in September.

A talented all-rounder, Sheena is already a valuable member of WGS' 1st XI hockey team and 1st VII netball team. Sheena recently played a pivotal role in securing WGS’ victory in the U19 netball county tournament to progress to the regional finals.

Outside of school, Sheena's sporting achievements are equally impressive. Since the age of 13, she has represented England in Rounders; a commitment that requires year-round training. Sheena also plays for Dudley Netball Club and is currently undergoing training to join the women's league. During the weekends, when not training or competing, Sheena volunteers as a lifeguard and also umpires netball matches.

Despite her demanding sporting schedule, Sheena remains a dedicated student, pursuing her studies in Biology, Chemistry, and German, with her sights set on attending university after completing her A Levels.

When asked about her time so far at WGS, Sheena shared her appreciation for her enthusiastic teachers and the sporting opportunities. Sheena joined WGS Sixth Form as she felt it had the best resources for her, she shared: “When I first came for an open evening, I was scared, but they comforted me and adapted the whole evening for me. This made me feel like it was the right school for me.”

We are thrilled to have Sheena join our Sixth Form and we are confident that she will continue to achieve great things in the future.

Could you be our next Sixth Form Sports Scholar? The application deadline for September 2024 entry is Friday 12th January 2024. Register here.
